Experienced reporter - print, web, social media
The University of Georgia - Athens, Ga.
I am a journalism student at the University of Georgia. I am a born story-teller with the ability to treat news, features, and other events with equal passion. I thrive in a fast-paced environment. While I have great respect for print journalism, I enjoy the challenge of telling a story in 140 characters or less for social media.

About

RED Denty

I’ve always felt that ink runs in my blood. My grandmother has been writing for newspapers in Georgia for more than 50 years and my dad owns my hometown’s local newspaper, The Press-Sentinel. From a young age I was exposed to the world of journalism — some of my earliest memories are from my time spent after school watching my dad’s printing press in action or bothering reporters in the newsroom.

I have been interested in the field of journalism for years, and as I have grown older, I’ve been fortunate to have already experienced several very good writing, editing and photography internships and work opportunities early in my career.

From working part-time at several community newspapers (The Press-Sentinel and The Telfair Enterprise) and working as a stringer for the GeorgeAnne at Georgia Southern University to interning in the communications department for Sen. Johnny Isakson, participating in a fellowship with the National Newspaper Association and interning in the communications department at the University of Georgia's Odum School of Ecology, I have been exposed to an array of editorial formats.

While my early experiences have been a great education, I understand that I have so much more to learn. There are aspects of journalism that I have not even scratched the surface of, and I am excited for the opportunity to do so at UGA's Grady School of Journalism. One of the programs that I am most looking forward to is the New Media Certificate. The field of journalism is changing every day, and I’m eager to learn how to produce news for the news cycle of the future.
